Terminas Steampunk įtrauktas į vienatomį Oksfordo kasdieninės anglų kalbos žodyną [Oxford Dictionary of English (ODE)] ir tokiu būdu tapo nebe žargoniniu išsireiškimu, o pilnaverčiu žodžiu:
steampunk – a genre of science fiction that typically features steam-powered machinery rather than advanced technology
